Musquin and Hill both scored top practice times to earn great gate picks for the first moto and both were in the top 10 after the start with Musquin at second at the end of the first lap behind Nelson and Hill following in fifth place. Nelson and Musquin then engaged in a spirited battle for the lead for the first seven laps before Musquin made the pass stick and went on to win the race by six seconds. Hill also picked up the pace and was in second place by the end of the moto while Nelson stayed close to finish fourth.

The second moto again saw Musquin get away well and take the lead in the second lap. Hill was back at fourteenth place at the end of the first lap but quickly picked off four riders in the next lap. He went on to secure fifth place while Musquin’s mistake-free race out front saw him again cross the in front by a margin of six seconds. Nelson ran up front the entire moto and finished fourth.  It was KTM’s first podium sweep of the season.

“It was great to see three KTM’s on the podium today,” stated Red Bull KTM Team Manager Roger De Coster. “We can’t ask for too much better of a day than that. We are proud of our two Red Bull KTM riders and it is great to see the progress of the TLD riders as well.”

Dungey third in 450s at Glen Helen

The 450-class US SX champion was fourth fastest in the qualifying sessions to pick up a top gate pick for the main event.

Dungey got away well in the opening moto and was in third as they came to the first big hill. He moved up to second in lap two and was out in front in lap three. He held the position for the next four laps until his bike stalled allowing Eli Tomac to pass. Dungey remained close throughout the race and seemed to have second place in the bag when a mechanical issue on the final lap cost him some time. He recovered quickly and was able to salvage a sixth-place moto score.

He again got another great jump out of the gate in his second moto and came around the first corner in second place behind Tomac and held onto the position to the finish. His 6-2 results gave him third overall for the day.

“Overall, I feel the team made a lot of progress with the bike set-up this weekend,” stated Dungey after the race. “I felt way more comfortable this weekend. I am bummed about the mechanical in the first moto, but the Red Bull KTM Team fixed the issue and we were able to put together a solid second moto.”
